What is the medicine used for?

These nutritional supplements are used for the prevention and treatment of deficiencies of vitamin C and zinc.

Vitamin C and zinc have important functions:

Vitamin C	The body's major water-soluble antioxidant which acts as first defense against free radicals in the aqueous (water) phase including blood, plasma and other intracellular and extracellular fluids A cofactor of enzymes involved in the formation of collagen, the most abundant protein essential in the formation of bones, teeth, cartilage and skin. Collagen provides strength and elasticity to the skin and helps promote faster wound healing Forms part of the body's natural immune system; it stimulates the activity of antibodies and immune cells which inhibit foreign antigens such as bacteria and viruses that are harmful to the body
Zinc	Required for the normal development and maintenance of the immune system; helps regulate the activity of cells involved inimmune function Functions as an antioxidant by being a cofactor of the enzyme superoxide dismutase which is involved in the removal of harmful free radicals Essential for skin integrity and wound healing; it promotes tissue repair by stimulating cell division through proper connective tissue formation

What is in the medicine?

These nutritional supplements contain vitamin C and zinc.

Young children are growing rapidly and their immune system may not yet be fully developed. Hence, supplementation with vitamin C and zinc may be beneficial. Vitamin C and zinc together help the body's natural defense against damaging free radicals (antioxidant effect) and help boost immune function. Free radicals and highly reactive and unstable chemicals generated during normal body activities that require oxygen (e.g. respiration, digestion, blood circulation, immune system response, etc.) and after exposure to UV light, cigarette smoke and various pollutants. One major effect of zinc is on the ability of cells to properly replicate their DNA, which is required for cells to multiply. Hence, zinc is needed for normal growth of infants and young children, cell renewal and cell repair.

How much and how often should you use this medicine?

Age Group	Vitamin C + Zinc (Ceelin® Plus) 100 mg/10 mg per 5 mL Syrup Orally, once a day
1-3 years	2.5 mL (1/2 teaspoonful)
4-8 years	5 mL (1 teaspoonful)
9-13 years	5-10 mL (1 to 2 teaspoonsful)
	Or, as directed by a doctor
Age Group	Vitamin C + Zinc (Ceelin® Plus) 40 mg/5 mg per mL Syrup (Oral Drops) Orally, once a day
Birth to < 6 months	0.5 mL
6-11 months	0.5 to 1 mL
1-2 years	1 mL

Formulation

Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) syrup contains:
Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)	100 mg
Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate (equivalent to 10 mg elemental zinc)	27.44 mg
Each mL syrup (oral drops) contains:
Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)	40 mg
Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate (equivalent to 5 mg elemental Zinc)	13.72 mg
